World-renowned Jamaican artist Lloyd Hoffstead was born in Lucea, Jamaica. From his earliest days, he was very creative, and showed a keen interest in art.

Lloyd was a naturally gifted student, and at the age of 18, was accepted to the Jamaica School of Art (now the Edna Manley School of the Arts) in Kingston.

Lloyd studied painting, sculpture, jewel craft, graphic design, textiles, and ceramics before graduating in 1982.

The same year, he opened Gallery Hoffstead 1 in his home town of Lucea - the first graduate of the School of Art to set up a gallery in Jamaica.

In 1986, Lloyd opened Gallery Hoffstead 2 in Negril - and became the fist artist in Jamaica to own two galleries.

Hoffstead can be seen painting at Gallery Hoffstead 2 nearly every day. His unique view of Jamaica's people, culture, and natural beauty is prominently displayed in his work.

Due to Internet limitations (and to insure quick page load time), the photos on this site are very small, and of fairly low resolution and picture quality.

Although the online images still look good - and many translate well to their web size - they hardly do justice, and can't compare to the original paintings, which really must be seen live - with your own eyes - to be truly appreciated. Many of the originals are quite large in size - the colours more vibrant - and the images far more vivid.
